Feedback
Week 8
Specific Feedback
Colour Mockup : Cover is not bad but not good either, be more expressive with the type. The placement of the title looks rigid. Boxes of half or 3/4 doesnt work, take it off. You can put it beside the half title or full title, play with it. Some placement of visuals shall be taken note to enhance readability. References shall be added more to show that you do your research. Picture is better to come out with a better resolution but it's actually okay.
E-Book : Point size is okay but not the leading, increase the pt size. Explore more. Animation looks so harsh and you can play with it more. EXPLORE.
Week 9
Specific Feedback
Book : Author and Publication in the cover point size should be decreased. Overall layout is okay, it's just that the type doesn't portray the personality of your illustrations.
E-book : .gif cover is still looking jagged, increase the amount of frames then decrease the frame rate. A button that will lead to the next page in the cover? Interactivity of the book is art form of the book, do explore more and reconsider. Animations are predictable, explore more as thinking is advisable. Some pages could add up illustrations to make it not so empty.
Friday Class : it's there, but make the animation smoother. some gifs are fine, some not. do consider the placement of the navigation of every page - it's the interactivity of ebook which is important. do finish the whole desktop on monday, iPad and iPhone if possible.
General Feedback
Paper weight shall be considered, dont make it so thin; this make it seems like it's part of the content instead of the cover.
Week 10
Specific Feedback
Ebook (Desktop) : Navigation button is too big, make it smaller. Remove the white background by saving it to .png. Instead underline, use different colour to indicate them with the subtexts - and have it rollover with the darker colour. Have the gifs keep on playing. Exact links on the references. Attach page number.
Blog : Put the text formatting in the exercise too - and attach it ahead from the illustration progressions and all because it is divided to two different parts. The form and movements has only have one colour, remove the others.
Week 11
Specific Feedback
Blog : Revise what I've said last week. Make a .gif for the form and movement exercise.
E-Book (iPhone) : text is too tight, point size & navigation button is too small. Do take note the leading and paragraph spacing of book - ebook in desktop, iPad, iPhone, sizes are different. What matters is the legibility and readability, illustrations is not necessary to be attached if it's too tightening - you can put it in the next page instead. Be CONSISTENT towards the placement of the subtexts.
Week 12
Specific Feedback
E-book : content animation could be faster and have all of the contents come out all in one so readers won't have to wait for so long. Button 'back to content' - have it << instead of <<<. page 15 is slow, please work it out. Activate the links for references. Have the subtexts more interactive - appear when it's clicked/rollover then go when it's roll off?
General Feedback
Now that you guys submitted your work, focus on your e-portfolio and portfolio.
Reflection
Experience
I would say that I experience a lot of new things this project. As stated in the brief that it's a digitalised book, we were required to adapt the book we designed in the previous project into desktop, iPad and iPhone version. I wasn't as skilled in InDesign but this project has brought my skill towards this particular software to at very least a step forward - its animation, button to hyperlink features were actually cool and I had fun exploring with it. Animating my illustrations weren't an easy thing as there are many things to consider as told by the lecturer. Adapting the content of the book to these 3 different platforms, too, different sizes of screens shall be treated differently as well, especially the adaptation between desktop to iPhone. To conclude, the past 3-4 weeks weren't a smooth one but worth the process. I've explored, encountered, and learned a lot of new things.
Observation
I've observed that the project started early because the project is considered quite tough due to the new features we haven't encountered before, which is good. I noticed that my classmates weren't fond of these features too that we tend to ask each other about this and that, which is good too, that we help each other. HAHA although, I've realized that the class atmosphere was intense and down mostly, mainly because the limited consultation had and exhaustion we felt - or maybe it's just me.
Findings
I found out that as sizes of screens are different, the leading and paragraph spacing should be applied in different sizes too. I again reminded that typography is one of the most important things that shall be taken in a careful manner in this project because all in all, the readability and legibility has and always been important in either making a book itself or digitalised version of it. Layout is another thing to be considered in order to enhance the readability and legibility.
